Spent some time in Psalm 33 this morning. When life isn't going as you planned or hoped, there's much encouragement in these verses. For instance, verse 11--"But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generations." (NIV84)
No one can predict what's going to happen next year, next week, or even in the next moment, but God knows, and nothing that happens will keep His plans and the purposes of His heart from being fulfilled. I was reminded of the assurance that God is in control and also that He has a heart. He is not unfeeling or unloving. He knows what's going on in our lives. Our circumstances may not be pleasant right now, but His plans for all those in Christ are good plans. Marvelous plans. Plans full of wonder, joy, and promise. So we should not give up but instead pray for His help and press on in our faith knowing that we have a God who loves us and is with us and will help us.
I love how this Psalm ends. "We wait in hope for the LORD; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you." There's a prayer we can pray in every circumstance. "May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD, even as we put our hope in you."
