Fear Not

According to John Ortberg's book, If You Want to Walk on Water, You Have to Get Out of the Boat, the two most often quoted words in the Bible are "Fear not." He points out there are 366 verses in the Bible that tell us not to be afraid, one for every day of the year including leap year. In addition to the verses I've posted on this blog, you can go to www.biblegateway.com, click the Key Word tab and type in "fear not" or "do not be afraid" in the English Standard Version as well as other versions. Meditating on verses like this daily will build your faith and speak truth to your soul. :)

That is an interesting piece of information. I'd like to collect a list of all those verses. That would be a nice lunchtime reading everyday. To read a "Fear not" passage and meditate on it as I go about my day. Thank you for sharing this! :)

Your blog has been so very inspirational to me. I am a wife, a teacher and a mother of young twin girls. I am a believer. I am living with anxiety and panic. Every day, and sometimes every minute, is a very focused effort to not succumb to this fear that is always hovering around me. Though medication helps, it does not cure. Only my precious savior has the power to completely restore. Your website has been a huge blessing as I walk this path that I never imagined for myself. May God richly bless you.

Thank you. :) I pray that God will strengthen your mind, soul, and spirit as you lean on Him. Isaiah 26:3 is a wonderful verse to remember throughout your day--"You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You." I truly believe that is the secret to persevering through stressful situations. Stopping whenever anxiety flares and refocusing our thoughts on our very able God who loves us and has promised to be our refuge and our strength. It is a mind battle to force our thoughts away from fear, and you may not be able to make your thoughts bow down to God's Word at first, but the more you try, the more skilled you will become. Like Paul says in Ephesians 6, we have to put on the full armor of God and we have to wield the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Some days I do better than others. But God sees me through. I've battled panic without praying Gods Word and I've battled panic praying Gods Word, and I can tell you that praying God's Word is way better. God is with you and He is for you. He will help you become stronger.
