"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." Phil. 4:6-7, NIV84
Instead of being anxious, pray. When we're anxious, we're frustrated because we want to do something but don't know what to do. God is telling us through Paul what to do.
Never do we need to be near God more than when we're being tempted to distrust Him because of our circumstances or negative emotions.
Bring the matter to God.
And bring it with thanksgiving, being thankful we have a God, our heavenly Father who loves us, welcomes us, who knows what to do with our prayers and petitions. He is our Helper, Defender, Deliverer, and so much more than we can imagine.
He knows what to do.
As we pray and present our requests to God, we'll experience His peace--a peace beyond our understanding or ability to explain. This peace will guard our hearts and our minds--we'll settle down into the love and peace of our Savior and our God because we trust Him with our prayers and petitions.
We trust Him and we trust in Him.
The NIV Life Application Bible says this: "It (true peace) comes from knowing that God is in control. Our citizenship in Christ's kingdom is sure, our destiny is set, and we can have victory over sin. Let God's peace guard your heart against anxiety."

Bright were the blossoms on every bough.
I trusted Him when the roses were blooming,
I trust Him now...." L. B. Cowman
