"There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment." 1 John 4:18, NIV84
Mentioned this verse in my January 22 post. God impressed this verse upon me anew this morning. So here is what I believe He wants me and you to know today:
If we are living each day waiting for the other shoe to drop, if we're living with the feeling of impending doom, if we feel like we're a hamster in a cage who has to keep the wheel spinning, then we are living in fear.
The Scripture above speaks to all that. If we want to not be afraid, then we need to ask God to help us know His love. Because the more we feel loved by God, the less we fear, and the less anxiety we feel. God's perfect love assures us that we are of value, loved and worthy of being loved, and that we aren't cursed or doomed. Through the Holy Spirit, given to us by God when we become believers in Christ, God's love fills us and lets us know we belong to Him. "His Spirit testifies with our spirit that we are God's children," Romans 8, NIV84.
So when anxiety comes, when fear threatens our peace of mind, we need to call on the Lord. We need to have Scriptures available that tell of God's love for us and His willingness to help us, and we need to pray them to God, thanking Him for them and for His great love. And we won't stop praying until God's perfect love drives out the fear. His love and His Word are our defense against anxiety and panic.
"The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love, he will exult over you with loud singing." Zeph. 3:17, ESV
