Reading about the miracle of the loaves and fish in the Gospel of John in my quiet time and v. 11 struck me: "Jesus took the loaves, GAVE THANKS, and distributed to those...." Looked up the words "gave thanks" in Greek dictionary (Hebrew-Greek Key Word Bible) is "eucharisteo" and means to show oneself grateful, be thankful, give thanks. And it occurred to me that Jesus, the Son of God, was truly grateful to God for those five small barley loaves and two small fish. He didn't just give lip service. Jesus couldn't pray half-heartedly. For the first time I had the slightest insight into that moment when He prayed--thankfully, gratefully. And it made me think, "Am I thankful for the small amounts that I have? That anything God provides will be more than enough when I give thanks from my heart? And then I thought about our elections today. No matter who wins the Presidential election, God has provided, and I can be thankful for what little they have to give, and I can pray that God will multiply that so it makes a difference for our country and for His kingdom and His glory. This gives me peace this morning.
