Verses for Anxiety and Panic

Reposting my first post ever on this blog (May 1, 2007) to help make the Scripture verses that I used (and still use) to deal with anxiety and depression more accessible. I also updated the version of some of the verses, so they are not all King James Version.

These are verses I used to defeat panic, depression, and daily anxiety. I read these verses day and night to get the truth of them into me. My panic attacks were very severe. But nothing is more powerful than God. When I had enough confidence in them to pray them to God and to thank Him that He meant these verses for me, my panic attacks went away. Eventually, they stopped coming altogether. I pray these verses will help free others from panic and daily anxiety as well. After reading Beth Moore's book, Praying God's Word, I learned to personalize the verses--put my name in them. That really helped. The first verse is an example.

Isaiah 41:10 "So do not fear, (your name) for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you;I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." (NIV)

Isaiah 41:13 "For I the Lord your God hold your right hand; I am the Lord, Who says to you, Fear not; I will help you!" (Amp)

Isaiah 43:1-4 "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name;
You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. For I am the Lord your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior. Since you were precious in My sight,You have been honored, And I have loved you." (NKJV)

Joshua 1:5,9 " I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." (ESV)

Psalm 107:13-14 "Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he saved them from their distress. He brought them out of darkness and the deepest gloom and broke away their chains." (NIV)

Phillipians 4:6-7 "Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." (NLT)

Psalm 91: 1-2, 4-6 "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid." (KJV)

Psalm 91: 14-16 "Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation." (NKJV)

Isaiah 54:10 "For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, but even then my faithful love for you will remain. My covenant of blessing will never be broken,” says the Lord, who has mercy on you." (NLT)

2 Timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." (KJV)

Proverbs 1:33 "But whoever listens to me will dwell secure and will be at ease, without dread of disaster." (ESV)

1 Peter 5:7 Cast all you anxiety on Him because He cares for you." (NIV)

Isaiah 26:3 "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee; because he trusteth in thee." (KJV)

Romans 8:6 "So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace." (NLT)

Isaiah 59:19 "When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him." (KJV)

Ephesians 2:14 "For He (Christ) Himself is our peace." (NASB) (word in italics added)

Isaiah 51:12 "I, even I, am he that comforteth you." (KJV)

Zephaniah 3:17 "For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs." (NLT)

Ephesians 6:10-11 Finally...be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. (KJV)

Proverbs 2:7-8 He holds victory in store for the upright, He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for He guards the course of the just and protects the way of His faithful ones. (NIV)

Hebrews 13:5-6 For He Himself has said, "I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you," so that we confidently say, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid." (NASB)

2 Peter 1:3-4 By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires." (NLT)

Isaiah 30:18 Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; He rises to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for Him. (NIV)

Psalm 34:4: "I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears." (NKJV)

Romans 16:20: "And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) be with you.." (Amp)

Deut. 33:26-29: There is no one like the God of Jeshurun, who rides on the heavens to help you and on the clouds in his majesty. The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemy before you, saying, ‘Destroy him!’ So Israel will live in safety alone; Jacob’s spring is secure in a land of grain and new wine, where the heavens drop dew. Blessed are you, O Israel!Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord? He is your shield and helper and your glorious sword. Your enemies will cower before you, and you will trample down their high places. (NIV)
Psalm 73:23-26;28: Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory. Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. (NIV)

I am so happy you reposted this and that I found it. This blog post/collection of verses truly helped save me. Years ago I was a sophomore in high school going through some awful times and nothing would stop my anxiety. It was literally paralyzing. I would just come to this list and pray these verses. One especially bad bout, I just gave up and finally just let Hod take it away from me. I am still anxious every once in a while but it has never been as bad. And I can actually cope. Thank you again for reposting ❤

You are most welcome. I'm glad these verses are still helping you. They're still helping me, too. Since coming off of hormone replacement therapy recently, anxiety has been a daily issue. I still take a small dose of alprazolam daily and continue to lean on these verses and God's faithfulness, love, and constant presence. As Paul said, God has begun a good work in us. He will be faithful to complete it. Praying God's grace and peace for you.
